ALBERT CHARLES EVANS passed away from cancer on November 24, 2021, age 76. Al was born on February 14, 1945, in Bay City to the late Albert Luke and Virginia (Rase) Evans. He graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1963 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1966 until 1969. Al met the former Sandra Kay Smrecak while bowling; they were married for over 50 years. He worked for Michigan Bell and retired from AT&T after 30 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed baseball and was one of the best catchers in Bay City; there wasn't a baseball mitt in Essexville that he didn't repair. He played for the Bay County American Legion baseball team, and they were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Al loved coaching baseball and the little league teams. You could also catch Al on the football field marking lines and doing chain stats.
To carry on his legacy, Al leaves his loving wife, Sandra; sons, Todd Evans and Brian (Nancy) Evans; grandchildren, Jacob and Justin Evans, and his sister, Janice Kennedy. Along with his parents, Al was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Evans and brother-in-law, Robert Kennedy.
Al's funeral will take place at Skorupski Family Funeral Home on December 28, 2021 from 12:00 Noon until his 5:00 pm Military Honors Ceremony. Expressions of sympathy may be made online at www.skorupskis.com.

Sad to hear of the passing of Al. Spent a lot of time on the ball diamond with Al - he was a great catcher, a clutch hitter and a great teammate.

Al was a super guy! I didn't play high school baseball with him as Handy eliminated baseball that year for "austerity" puposes. However, I did play that summer on a team that played against the team Al was on. I came up to bat and Al was messing with me. He said "just for you Wilks, I'm going to have him throw you a curve ball, no I think I'll have him throw a fast ball, no, I'm not sure what he'll throw". Whoever chose the pitch, it was the wrong one. I hit it to the bank at Memorial Park. Al's comments to me both before and after were priceless! I always enjoyed his banter and his company. He was one more terriffic guy!

I am deeply sorry to hear of the passing of my friend Al Evans. He was one my closest friends as we went to school together in Banks and finished at Handy. He was a good baseball player, but a wonderful guy to spend time with and I am glad I spent all the time I did with him. Rest in Peace my friend.

I was sorry to hear about Al's passing he was a great guy and a great teammate on TL Handy's baseball team. It sounds like he was very active in youth baseball. I am sure that the community along with his family will really miss him. God speed my friend!!
