John A. Laverty passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 surrounded by his family at McLaren Bay Region. He was born May 5, 1945 in Saginaw. John was a 1963 graduate of Handy High School and attended Delta College. He retired from Delphi in 2002 after 36 years of service in the Engineering Department. John coached many years of football at Handy High School, Central High School and Handy Middle School. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons and friends in the Higgins Lake area. His other favorite hobbies include model railroading, golfing with friends, and following local high school sports. John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeannie (Lauria); son, John Jr. (Sandy) of Midland; daughter, Jill (Jeff) Knecht of Elmhurst, IL; daughter, Jennifer (Steve Huck) Englehardt of Manchester, TN; son, Jason of Novi; grandchildren, John III (Payten), Erin (Qwinn), Amanda (James), Naten, Emerson and Eloise and great grandchildren, Brayden, and Benjamin. John was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Hazel (Kay) Laverty. Following the service a private burial took place in the Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
